Gets the error message: "SB_DISPLAY_ADDR variable is not set" when
attempting to start UG from ugmenu.
ANALYSIS/CAUSE
--------------
The environmental variable SB_DISPLAY_ADDR is not set. This variable
is specified in the file /etc/profile. Windows that are started by
the user will not source this file or their home directory .profile file
unless the window is started using the -ls option.
Use the command 'env' at the shell prompt to verify that the
variable is not set. The following five UG environment variables
should be set:
UGII_ROOT_DIR=<UG executable directory i.e. /usr/eds/bin/ >
UGII_BASE_DIR=<base directory, i.e. /usr/eds >
UGII_FILE_SYSTEM=<NATIVE or UGFM>
ACS_MASTER=<Master nodename>
ACS_ALTERNATE=<Alternate Master nodename>
SOLUTION/WORKAROUND
-------------------
The environment variable can be set globally by editing the file
/usr/lib/X11/vue/Vuelogin/Xsession for HP-UX 8.07. Edit the
file and go to the auto-customize section. Add or edit the
UG environment variables UGII_ROOT_DIR, UGII_BASE_DIR, UGII_FILE_SYSTEM,
ACS_MASTER, ACS_ALTERNATE, and SB_DISPLAY_ADDR as they appear in your
/etc/profile file. Using the command: 'tail /etc/profile' will display
the UG environment variables. Save the file and log completely off of the
workstation. After logging back in the environment variables will all be
set and UG will now work.

Systems using 3D Labs cards with Unigraphics V18
SYMPTOM/PROBLEM
---------------
Viewing models in shaded mode gives very poor quality. Surfaces are either
partially visible, or not visible at all. Wireframe images display with no
problems.
SOLUTION/WORKAROUND
-------------------
3D Labs has a proposed solution on their website: Troubleshooting - #AP-16
Unigraphics V18
If you are having problems when in shaded mode whilst using Unigraphics V18,
the following amendment to your systems registry should resolve the problem:
Run "regedit" and browse to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Unigraphics
Solutions/UG/180/Visualisation folder in your registry. In this folder there
should be a string which looks like "(computer name) (computer name):0.0 GLINT
R3 PT configuration". Find this then double click it to bring up the Edit
String window. In the Value data box, change all instances of the word
"display" and replace it with the word "immediate".
