Automatic 5-axis programming with WorkNC Auto 5
  
Programming 5-axis machine tools can be complex, requiring skilled engineers to achieve the best results. WorkNC Auto 5 from Sescoi simplifies the process and makes it possible to reliably generate 5-axis toolpaths with the minimum of effort.
  
The use of 5-axis machine tools holds clear advantages for manufacturers. Shorter and more rigid tools can be used, parts can be completed in one setting reducing handling and resetting times and improving quality, while undercuts and difficult to machine areas can all be reached, successfully eliminating subsequent operations. WorkNC Auto 5 has been designed by Sescoi to enable users to benefit from 5-axis machining with the added advantage of simple programming.  
  
WorkNC Auto 5 uses a revolutionary concept where 3-axis toolpaths created in WorkNC are automatically changed into 5-axis toolpaths. The programmer simply selects from a series of preferred cutting methods, for example normal to the surface, and if required picks a lead angle for improved cutting conditions. Independent of the machine tool type, the software automatically generates the 5-axis toolpath with primary consideration given to collision avoidance and a smooth toolpath. Where it is not possible to reach the job safely, WorkNC Auto 5 remembers the position, ready to add in repositioning and retract movements.
  
Automatically creating a 5-axis toolpath that is machine independent allows greater flexibility in production planning, enabling the engineers to choose which machine to use at the last minute. Once the actual machine tool has been selected, WorkNC Auto 5 automatically creates the retracts, axis flipping movements and rotations necessary to safely and smoothly cut the part, taking into account the kinematics of the individual machine. Finally the complete toolpath including the machine tool itself, the tool, the holder and the job can be graphically verified in WorkNC’s Visu NC module, which shows every movement of the machine and tooling to prove that the programme will be right first time.
