I-DEAS 8 Update Training Installation Instructions
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The I-DEAS 8 Update Training provides a wide range of topical information
with overviews, detailed articles, and tutorials about new functionality.
This material is designed for experienced users. (Experienced users are
already trained in the use of I-DEAS software and have a working knowledge
of I-DEAS Master Series 7.)
UNIX Installation Instructions
------------------------------------------------------------------------
To install the I-DEAS 8 Update Training do the following:
* Mount the I-DEAS Update Training CD-ROM (see the CD-ROM Notes in the
Quick Reference Card delivered with your I-DEAS 8 CD-ROMs if you need
mounting information)
* Log in as the user who installed I-DEAS 8 (eg. ideasadm)
* Move to the directory where I-DEAS is installed (.../sdrc/ideas8)
$ cd .../sdrc/ideas8
* Run the setup.sh script from the CD-ROM.
$ [/cdrom]/setup.sh
replacing the [/cdrom] with the CD device name of your CD player.
* Select Next on the Update Training setup program welcome screen.
* The setup program will use the local location as the default
destination directory. Either choose a new destination directory to
which to load the Update Training files and/or press Next.
* You have 5 options for loading with the Update Training program.
o English Update Training - select to load the Update Training HTML
and Graphics files for English to your destination location.
o French Update Training - select to load the Update Training HTML
and Graphics files for French to your destination location.
o German Update Training - select to load the Update Training HTML
and Graphics files for German to your destination location.
o Japanese Update Training - select to load the Update Training
HTML and Graphics files for Japanese to your destination
location.
o Data Product Files - select to load the data product support
files to your destination location. If you loading files to your
I-DEAS installation and want to use the data product with the
Update Training, select this option. If you are not loading files
to your I-DEAS installation, do not select this option.
* Press Next to begin loading your options to disk.
* After the files are loaded the setup program will be complete.
* To catalog the data product files (if loaded) to your team directory
for use with the Update Training you will need to run DMADMIN and
catalog the files from outside of the setup program.
o start a terminal window
o run the ...\sdrc\ideas8\bin\dmadmin program and enter the
following at the prompts:
INST
IN
select the # associated with the XY8_UPD_TRN data product

Windows NT Installation Instructions
------------------------------------------------------------------------
To install the Update Training on Windows NT, do the following:
* Put the Update Training CD-ROM in your CD player (you have probably
already done this if you are reading this file from CD-ROM).
* The Launch program will start automatically.. If the autorun does not
start the Setup program, double-click on the Launch.exe program on the
CD-ROM directory (in your Windows NT Explorer) to start theprogram.
* Select "Install I-DEAS Update Training" from the Launch program.
* Select the language in which you want to run the Setup program.
Choices are English, French, German, or Japanese.
* Select Next on the Update Training setup program welcome screen.
* The setup program will attempt to locate your I-DEAS 8 installation.
If successful, the destination location on the next screen will be
where you loaded I-DEAS 8 on your Windows NT workstation. If
unsuccessful, a default Program Files location will be selected.
Either choose a new destination location to which to load the Update
Training files and/or press Next.
* You have 5 options for loading with the Update Training program.
o English Update Training - select to load the Update Training HTML
and Graphics files for English to your destination location.
o French Update Training - select to load the Update Training HTML
and Graphics files for French to your destination location.
o German Update Training - select to load the Update Training HTML
and Graphics files for German to your destination location.
o Japanese Update Training - select to load the Update Training
HTML and Graphics files for Japanese to your destination
location.
o Data Product Files - select to load the data product support
files to your destination location. If you loading files to your
I-DEAS installation and want to use the data product with the
Update Training, select this option. If you are not loading files
to your I-DEAS installation, do not select this option.
o Press Next to begin loading your options to disk.
* After the files are loaded, the next screen allows you to select the
  rogram Folder to which to put the Update Training program icons. If
you are loading with the Administrator account on a machine on which
you loaded I-DEAS, the default Program Folder is "I-DEAS 8.00.000". If
not, the default is "I-DEAS Update Training for I-DEAS 8". Press Next
after choosing the Program Folder you want to use.
* The setup program will create the I-DEAS Update Training icons and
will be complete.
* To catalog the data product files (if loaded) to your team directory
for use with the Update Training you will need to run DMADMIN and
catalog the files from outside of the setup program.
o start an MS-DOS prompt window
o run the ...\sdrc\i-deas8\bin\dmadmin.cmd program and enter the
following at the prompts:
INST
IN
select the # associated with the XY8_UPD_TRN data product
0
EXIT

HTML Browser Requirements for Using the I-DEAS Update Training
------------------------------------------------------------------------
To use this update training, you must use either:
1. Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later
2. Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later
In addition, JavaScript must be turned on in the browser.
Netscape Navigator 3 Note
To turn on JavaScript, display:
* Options, Network Preferences, Languages, Enable JavaScript
Netscape Navigator 4 Note
To turn on JavaScript, display:
* Edit, Preferences, Advanced, Enable JavaScript
Microsoft Internet Explorer Note
The Update Training is designed to work in Internet Explorer 4.0 or better.
It is not designed to work with earlier versions of Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer version 3.02 may hang when connecting to a Web link that
contains a Java application after you have installed Windows NT version 4.0
Service Pack 3. The application will stop responding only if the Display
Properties Color Palette is set to True Color.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. To
work around this problem, do not use the True Color palette in Display
Properties. To resolve this problem, obtain the hotfix listed in the
article mentioned below, or wait for the next service pack. See Microsoft
