Assembly Motion
What is it?
You can simulate motion in an assembly by inserting motion steps into an assembly sequence. Motion steps help you better understand an assembly and its behavior by simulating motions that the assembly (and its components) adopt during assembly, operation, and maintenance phases.
The following images show a vise screw moving into position in a machine vise:

Create a motion step in a sequence by choosing Insert-> Motion (or the Insert Motion option on the Assembly Sequencing toolbar). Select the components that you want to move, and drag them into position. You can use the icon options in the graphics window to help you move the components. Collision checking is available.
A motion can contain more than one movement. The Details window below the Sequence Navigator gives you more details about the selected motion, such as the number of movements in the selected motion, and the number of frames in each movement.
The Mating Constraints option in the Details window controls whether the assembly components' mating conditions are used during creation and replay of motion steps. This option appears when you select a sequence in the Sequence Navigator. You can change its setting with the option's MB3 pop-up menu.
The Dynamic Collision Detection options are now on a separate toolbar that is available when you are in the Sequencing environment.
The Capture Arrangement option stores the current frame's body positions in an arrangement:
Each component in the captured arrangement is in the position where it was captured. The Capture Arrangement option overrides the Same Position in All Arrangements option on the Component Properties dialog.
Components that are disassembled when you choose Capture Arrangement are suppressed in the captured arrangement.
Why should I use it?
The new Assembly Motion capabilities let you:
Perform a motion on any component
Perform a motion even when you have no prior knowledge of how it was set up
Run the motion without necessarily changing the nominal position of the components.
Previously, you could only move partially constrained or unconstrained components (e.g., by dragging them using the Reposition Component dialog). You needed prior knowledge of which components could be moved and which directions they could move in. There was also no easy way to tell which assemblies had any components that could be moved.
