Mastercam allows you to add to or remove cuts from shallow areas in a rough or finish contour (constant Z) toolpath. You can add or remove full cuts or partial cuts from the shallow areas. You can access the Contour Shallow dialog box where these options are located by choosing the Shallow button on the Rough contour parameters tab or the Finish contour parameters tab.
The minimum stepdown on the Contour Shallow dialog box sets the minimum distance between the added Z cuts in the shallow areas of the part.
The limiting angle sets the angle that defines the shallow areas on the part. A typical limiting angle is 45 degrees. Mastercam adds or removes cuts in an area that ranges from zero (0) to the limiting angle (usually 45 degrees).
The limiting stepover is used as the maximum stepover when removing cuts from shallow areas. If adjacent cuts are further apart than the limiting stepover value, then one of the cuts is removed. Entire cuts are only removed if the whole cut is shallow. You can remove only the shallow part of a cut.
The limiting stepover is used as the minimum stepover when adding cuts to shallow areas. If adjacent cuts are further apart than the limiting stepover value, then additional cuts are created between the adjacent cuts. You can add only the shallow part of a cut.
