PTC has recently identified and corrected a software issue that will affect numerous Pro/ENGINEER, Pro/INTRALINK, and Windchill customers worldwide. Specifically, this software issue may cause certain inter-process communications between Pro/ENGINEER and related application modules to "time-out" prematurely on January 10, 2004 and thereafter. This issue, which affects Pro/ENGINEER and related products, does not corrupt data but may impact productive utilization of the software unless addressed before January 10, 2004. Please check below to determine how your implementation is affected.  
  
This isolated software issue can be readily addressed via a small downloadable software patch or by implementing a new maintenance build of the release of the software you have currently deployed.

Will I still be able to run Pro/ENGINEER after January 10, 2004 without this fix?
In general, Pro/ENGINEER will continue to function after January 10, 2004; however various commands and capabilities that utilize inter-process communications will no longer function properly. PTC strongly suggests that all users download and install the appropriate patches.

Windows workstations  
  
1.   Exit out of all PTC Applications, and stop all nmsd processes that are still running on the workstation.  
*To verify, start ‘Task Manager’, go to ‘Processes’, if a nmsd process is still running, select the process and click #End Process.  
  
2.  Download the new 'nmsd.exe' file for the correct architecture, and place it in a temporary directory.  
  
3.  Replace the nmsd executable located in the '&ltTC_Software_loadpoint>\<machine_type>\nms' directory, and replace it with the nmsd executable downloaded from Step 2.  
*Windows location example: d:\ptc\proe\i486_nt\nms  
  
4.  Verify that the new nmsd executable has been placed, by viewing the time stamp in Windows Explorer. (Click #View, #Details to see this timestamp.)
  
5.  Restart the PTC Application, and verify that the nmsd process starts in the ‘Task Manager’.
