POSITION: Engineer, Sr., Mechanical Development
REPORTS TO: Manager, Engineering
BUSINESS UNIT: Sensing, Safety and Connectivity Business
LOCATION: Shanghai
MAJOR OBJECTIVE:
Responsible for the design of products that will be used in an industrial environment. This involves the
design of molded plastic enclosures for optical, electrical and mechanical components. Relies on prior experience
and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks with some supervision.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 Plans and conducts or supervises engineering research, design, and test of all mechanical aspects of photoelectric
product development including form factor concept, housing design, sealing, fasteners and connectors, material
selection, production processes and tooling.
2 May optionally have project leader responsibilities
3 Schedule work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
Knowledge:
1 Must have directly applicable experience packaging electro/mechanical components for use in an industrial
environment.
2 Must be proficient in the use of Pro/ENGINEER.
3 Must have strong analytical and computational skills to complete mechanical tolerance studies.
4 Must be knowledgeable of designing complex injection molded components and understand plastic material properties.
5 Must be knowledgeable of applicable UL, CSA and CE agency requirements.
6 Must be knowledgeable of designing sealed assemblies using snap mechanisms, fasteners, adhesives and .
7 Must be capable of defining engineering tests to support designs.
8 Should have experience with adjacent product areas such as consumer products, video, digital cameras, CD drives
and be able to apply principles to an industrial environment.
9 Provide high level "hands-on" mechanical engineering expertise to a variety of products.
10 Position will require understanding of interdisciplinary concepts.
11 Resolve complex technical cross-functional issues regarding component selections, design, testing, reliability,
meeting product costing target, and on-going product improvements.
12 Solve diverse mechanical issues, in areas such as product packaging, thermal design, materials selection.
13 Independently analyze problems to identify and deliver solutions that meet customer needs.
14 Job content includes some detailed documentation tasks.
15 Experience in the fabrication of machined, stamped and cast components is desirable.
16 Familiar with Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly and FEA tools a plus.
17 Prior knowledge of optical and capacitance sensors, electro/mechanical switches, electrical contact/connector
design is a plus.
18 Prior experience designing elastomer seals is a plus. |
